The Beckton Alps. East London history is featured by the industrial identity. A massive redevelopment of the area started in 80s with the construction of the skyscrapers in the Docklands. The borough of Newham, has been object of a massive redevelopment plan for the last decade. It hosted the Olympic Games in 2012 Ironically known as the Beckton Alps, this is the highest point in the borough of Newham. It is made of the toxic spoil heaps from the works of the major London gasworks, Beckton Gasworks: the largest plant in the World built to manufacture coal gas and other products including coke from coal.
